American University Law Review Symposium

The American University Law Review Symposium on November 16, 2018 focused on patents, trademarks, government contracts, and international trade.

American University’s Washington College of Law Professor Padideh Ala’i moderated the trade panel that included me and two excellent trade lawyers, Bruce Hirsh and Neil Ellis.

The students were largely unfamiliar with trade law, but had great interest in understanding in particular the implications of current U.S. trade positions for the future of dispute settlement in the WTO.

Of course, every trade discussion these days prompts questions around U.S.-China trade relations and this event was no different, offering us the opportunity to discuss several facets of U.S. trade laws and how this administration’s use of them differs from historical practice. As always, the students had great questions!
