The Robertson Foundation for Government (RFFG) runs programs designed to identify and prepare future U.S. government leaders in the areas of national security, foreign policy and international affairs. Graduate students at select partner universities receive scholarships and internship stipends. In return, the students agree to work for the federal government for a period of time after graduation.
The foundation also hosts dinners and symposia for young professionals in Washington DC as an opportunity to engage policymakers and practitioners on current issues.
On this lively panel, I debated two prominent Ph.D. economists, Mary Lovely of the Peterson Institute for Economics and Robert Scott of the Economic Policy Institute, on the good and the bad of the Administration’s trade policies. Even better were the excellent questions from the audience of young professionals and the opportunity to mix with them after the dinner to learn about their backgrounds and aspirations in public service.
